Apply for the OER Grant for Spring 23!

Open Educational Resources (OER) are free and openly licensed educational materials.

Overview

The SCC Affordable Educational Resources Committee (AERC) is seeking applicants to help increase the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) on campus, funded by the HEERF Grant. Open Educational Resources (OER) are free and openly licensed educational materials. Faculty can be paid for their work related to converting their course(s) from a cost-based textbook to no-cost OER-based materials.

You can apply as an individual or as a department team. Please read more below for compensation and program requirements for each of these.

Applications

There are two applications:

Departmental Awards

In which you will apply as a team, with a designated team lead, to revise course materials and/or curriculum for course(s) that any faculty member in the department can use.

Team leads will be given .2 release time or overload (to be confirmed by area dean) and Team members will be paid hourly via a PEX. This PEX does not impact Adjunct load but FT faculty will need to confirm it does not overload them. It is essential you keep track of your hours as you will need to submit timesheets.

Individual Participant

In which you will work on adopting, revising, and/or remixing an OER. Please read more below for the project milestones and what you’ll be asked to work on and submit. Hours to get to milestone goals may vary; thus, payment amount may vary. Awardees will be paid via PEX timesheet upon achievement of various milestones, so it is essential to keep track of the hours you spend on the project.

Full Time and Part Time faculty are encouraged to apply. Reapplicants from previous semesters may apply, though new applicants will be prioritized.

Timeline

Applications will be reviewed, and your dean will be contacted, prior to acceptance. Applications for departmental awards are due as soon as possible to iron out release time. Individual applications are due Friday 1/27/23.
