Sacramento City College is committed to maintaining a safe campus environment and supporting an ongoing comprehensive safety program. Our faculty and staff are trained to respond to any number of incidents. The Los Rios Police Department (LRPD) employs sworn police officers who are California P.O.S.T (Peace Officers Standards and Training) certified and are responsible for protecting life and property on district-owned campuses.
What can you do? All faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to exercise a sense of personal responsibility for their own safety and the well-being of others.
If you see something, say something!

The Office of Intervention is a one-stop-shop serving the entire SCC community.
It is the place where the SCC community can come to seek support for themselves and other community members, consider options and/or report concerning behaviors related to issues that affect academic performance and/or the psychological and physical well-being of community members. Most importantly, community members can learn how to proceed as it relates to resolving concerns. Through consultations, interventions, workshops, trainings, and policy enforcement, community members learn the essential skills of confrontation, conflict resolutions, communication, and behavioral intervention.
The Office of Intervention oversees the Campus intervention Team (C.I.T.), a cross-functional team charged with responding to student emergencies, critical incidents and bias-related incidents. In consultation and collaboration with on-campus offices (such as LRPD, Office of Instruction, the Counseling Department) and Sacramento based organizations (such as WEAVE), the CIO works to develop and implement intervention strategies, as well as provide case management.
Outdoor emergency telephones are strategically located throughout the campuses. These phones are marked and easily identified by a blue light. When accessed, these emergency telephones will automatically connect the caller to the Los Rios Police Communications Center.
The following are examples of emergencies:
- Someone needs medical aid
- There is a fire in progress
- There is a crime in progress
- There has been a traffic accident
- There is a disruptive person or group on campus
ERNI is a computer desktop tool installed on staff and faculty computers that can be activated by double-clicking on the icon when a situation prevents them from safely calling the Los Rios Police Department.
In the event of a serious emergency or local area disaster, Los Rios will provide critical information to students and employees via the Los Rios Alert system. Emergency alerts are issued via text, phone call, and email.
