An Intensive Training Course for Learning to Teach Online
The Online Teaching and Learning Academy (OTLA) is an intensive 9-week online course for those interested in designing and facilitating pedagogically sound online or hybrid courses. This series will address:
- Learning theory as it pertains to online learning environments
- Best practices for online course design
- Employment of Backward Design principles
- Online assessment strategies
- Regular and effective contact
- ADA accessibility
- OEI Rubric Alignment
- Appropriate use of online tools
- Online Instructor Presence
- Collaborative online environments
The summer session of this course will be fully online and facilitated by a local faculty member. You will work asynchronously on your projects and will be required to meet assignment deadlines each week.

- Basic computer skills including:
- word processing
- file management
- Basic internet skills including:
- use of browsers
- search engines
- uploading/downloading files
- Use of Canvas including use of the following tools:
- Modules
- Content Pages (and the associated Rich Content Editor)
- Files
- Discussion Boards
Recommended Skills
- Familiarity working with multimedia files
- Familiarity with online discussion forums
