Convocation occurs on the Friday before the start of each Fall and Spring semester. It is a campus-wide event that is a celebration of SCC. Some Convocations are district-wide, an opportunity to collaborate with your colleagues at ARC, CRC, and FLC.

If you've been to Convocation before, you know it's a great opportunity to see colleagues you haven't seen since winter or summer break. You also get to hear from SCC's President Albert Garcia.

In the Fall semester, SCC's Chancellor Brian King visits along with an SCC trustee.

Many more elements make up the fabric of a typical Convocation, mostly we connect, we catch up, we commiserate and we move forward as a team into the semester. Some other highlights include:

  • The Celebration of Excellence
  • Meeting our new hires and promotions
  • An opening ritual that includes Libations and a Land Acknowledgement offered through our Cultural Engagement Centers
  • An exploration of various elements of the fabric of SCC; in the past, we've enjoyed insight into our Field Ecology program and the SESI learning community, for example.

We are always looking for ideas for Convocation! Whether you think an outside local community facilitator might be a perfect fit to give keynote, whether your center or group wants to be featured or wants to help out with a table the day of the event, we've created a form to collect your insight. The few days that precede Convocation we call Flex/PD week, and there are many opportunities there for you to also showcase your knowledge, your center's purpose, and more.
