Professional Learning
Professional Learning, also known as professional development, is about growing through learning as an SCC employee, whether you are:
- A faculty member wishing to modernize your classroom through changes to pedagogy or incorporation of new technology.
- A classified professional hopeful to improve outreach at a student-facing center.
- An administrator wanting to usher in a transformation of a part of SCC's institutional structure.
Facilitators
Whatever your role at SCC, we have professional learning for you, and we encourage our facilitators to always widen their lens beyond their constituency group so that you enjoy a more robust suite of professional learning opportunities. We also encourage facilitators to hold interactive sessions with accessibility and inclusion in mind. Ultimately, all professional learning can be looked at through the lens of equity, and with the SCC student ultimately in mind.
Events
Much of our professional learning is done through the Staff Resource Center, but many learning opportunities emerge through the year and are reflected in the SCC Faculty and Staff Calendar - affinity groups, committees, centers such as MESA and more, all regularly provide professional learning on campus. Our distance education team also holds regular events - look out for the classes such as OTLA 2.0 (visit Online Teaching and Learning Academy or search your inbox for "OTLA").
Outcomes
Professional learning efforts at Sacramento City College help the college:

Staff Resource Center
Professional Learning at SCC occurs throughout the year, with heavy concentrations of PD events held the week before Spring and Fall semesters begin in what we call PD Week or FLEX week.
